Pomp 12
Scope
POMP remains one of the most vital platforms for contemporary Afrikaans thought—curious, provocative, and deeply rooted. For its 12th edition, Sorted Design International once again led the creative direction, shaping a visual system that could hold tension between tradition and transformation. This issue pushed further into visual experimentation, embracing asymmetry, expressive typography, and generous negative space. The design balances academic rigour with aesthetic unpredictability—allowing essays, photography, fine art, and fiction to co-exist in a shared visual conversation. Each section was treated with a distinct rhythm, yet tied together by an underlying editorial grid that lent cohesion without rigidity. Type choices leaned more confident, with moments of deliberate disruption to echo the critical tone of the content. “With POMP 12, we didn’t just lay out the work—we gave it a stage, a pulse, and a bit of smoke.” The result is a journal that feels alive—an object you don’t just read, but experience. A tribute to the shifting voice of Afrikaanse kultuur.
